What is amphibian metal detector

Ground metal detectors can only be used for land search of valuable items. But as far as the search coil of such detectors is often waterproof, they can be submerged in water, but just up to the electronic box; however, it’ll be impossible to fully work with them underwater. Therefore, in order to give a hunter opportunity to work with a metal detector on land, in shallow water as well as underwater, the metal detector manufacturers produce that sort of ground and underwater metal detector hybrids. These devices help search not only on land in sunny or rainy weather, but also in water, with full submersion of a metal detector at that. As a rule, maximum submersion depth of such a device is about 3 meters.

Metal detectors, which can be worked with both in water and on land, are designed for search of objects made of different metals. In detection depth, discrimination quality and identification such devices are as good as the ground ones and that’s why they can be used for search of hoards, jewelry as well as other valuable items.

The distinctive feature of an amphibian metal detector is its electronic control box. In these devices it is engineered in such a way that ingress of water, dust and dirt on current-conducting details is excluded. The control box size can be increased, this is done in order to give it the properties of a float which won’t allow the whole unit to sink to the bottom. As a rule, a metal detector, which is able to operate underwater, initially comes with waterproof headphones. As LCD-screen indications are practically unreadable underwater and sound travels badly, use of headphones is the only way for an operator to receive object detection information from the device.

As a general matter, metal detector waterproofing affects cost of a unit: it will be higher than of a device that doesn’t have this one.
