I wanted to see if the coil was removable. I did a Google search and brought me here, the coil is not removable and what the frequency is, 8 HZ. After watching the video, could you imagine if your first metal detector was that good. I didn’t notice depth but still is/was probably the best “child’s” detector made.
My first was a hand-me-downs d-tex from my grandfather. Looking back at that it was kind of comical but when I was like 12 a bunch of people in my neighborhood had me go around and find their property markers and they paid me. It wasn’t till about 95 when I got my first real metal detectors, that I still have today along with others of course. One was an original numbered Excalibur sword that I immediately found something worth more than I made detecting when I was 12. Had I had that childs machine back then……..Hard to imagine what I would have found because I would have stuck with it.
My first real find with the Excalibur was an 1 oz Krugerrand on a 18k rope setting with a broken thick 18k rope chain after sifting through a handful of pennies at the beach. The bug did bite me pretty hard after that. There was about a 10-year lapse where I didn’t detect from when I was about 13 to about 22.
Sad about whites I was and am a Minelab user. But also still have my original DFX that I never fully appreciated untill years later since I had the Excalibur. Now that White’s is gone it is such a shame that it was Whites that went belly up and not Garrett. Garrett was smart to put focus on military, police, especially security. I believe that’s what kept them alive over Whites since whites built a far superior metal detector. With that said they could probably stay in business just on the carat by itself. Later
