Review

The Fisher F5 is a ground semi-professional metal detector in which functionality and the price are perfectly combined. It helps to go hunting both on land and in shallow waters, with submersion of the device just up to the control box. The metal detector coil is completely waterproof, however, the control box isn’t.

The electronic circuitry of the Fisher F5 metal detector is based on VLF technology. The device operates at universal frequency of 7.8 kHz. The multi-segment LCD-screen has become more informative than in the previous model (F4). Now, besides the standard parameters, it includes: a 4-segment indicator of the magnetic susceptibility of the soil, an indicator of ground conditions (Phase) and a 5-segment indicator of confidence in target identification (Confidence).

The metal discrimination on the visual scale is divided into 8 segments. There is a depth indicator (in inches) which is combined with the VDI scale and is activated by pressing the PINPOINT button. The Fisher F5 also has the main additional functions that help in search: VDI/TargetID, adjustable sensitivity, ground balancing, threshold, pinpoint mode and frequency (for eliminating interference). The sensitivity of the device is adjusted in the range of 1-10. The ground balancing in the Fisher F5 metal detector is manual and automatic, with a tuning range of 0-99. The threshold is adjusted manually and has values from -9 to 9 on the screen scale. A 4-tone audio response is applied for indicating the targets made of different metals. The detector has a 6.35mm headphone jack.

The Fisher F5 metal detector comes with the Fisher 10”Mono coil as standard equipment (it’s named as 10COIL-F5F in the manufacturer’s catalogue). For this machine there exist other coils of different sizes and parameters. The power supply of the detector is 2 ‘krona’ batteries. The size of the device is 105-130cm (adjustable height). The weight of the Fisher F5 (assembled) is 1.2kg.
