Garrett AT Gold repair. How to open the control box

What should you do if your Garrett AT Gold emits a constant beeping sound? If you have already tried 3 different coils, but it doesn’t help. The problem isn’t unique, and there is a solution: you should dismantle your detector first. Here’s a useful video: how to open the Garrett AT Gold control box (and the Garrett AT PRO housing, too). Comparison: Garrett AT MAX vs Teknetics G2+ (a nail board)

The Garrett AT MAX vs Teknetics G2+, being tested in a Monte’s Nail Board Test format. For those not in the know, it’s one of the most difficult and, above all, frequently performed tests of metal detectors. Simply said, not every unit can cope with such a nail board. Will your machine be capable of doing it? Continue reading

A proper recovery speed test of Garrett AT MAX

Which recovery speed test is the right one? You think it’s the one performed in the ground? You are wrong. The ground test is an interpretation of the air one. What we call a proper recovery speed test is when a positive target is located beneath a couple of negative ones. Simply said, when a coin is under the nails. That’s the only way you can know the detector’s real capabilities… But how about the Garrett AT MAX? Is this new machine able to well and truly separate close together targets? And is it worth its considerable price declared? It’s interesting (learn how to make proper tests). Continue reading

Comparison: Garrett AT MAX & Garrett AT PRO. Depth + salt test

It’s strange, very strange, when the manufacturer has to prove that its new machine is on par with an old one. But it’s difficult to prove it if the new detector looks and works similarly to the old one. For example, the manufacturer says that the new Garrett AT MAX provides greater detection depth than the old Garrett AT PRO. But is it true? Both devices actually come with identical coils. Or, as another example, according to Garrett, on salt beach (and in saltwater) will the Garrett AT MAX operate considerably better than the Garrett AT PRO. Here’s a salt beach test: to compare the Garrett AT MAX and Garrett AT PRO. Also, a depth test: how the machines react to salt sand and water. Continue reading
