Minelab X-Terra Elite Metal Detector. New for 2024

In the 1960s and 70s, there were dozens of metal detector manufacturers. From Grandpa Garrett’s memories, there were more than 50. Only two names have endured to this day: Garrett and Fisher. Few people know that Minelab’s history began only in the 90s when the main technologies were already established. The first multi-frequency metal detectors did not carry the Minelab label. Today, the Australian manufacturer claims to be the industry leader… Yet, they produce rather strange detectors that provoke more bewilderment than interest.

Minelab X-Terra Elite

Discover the all-new Minelab X-TERRA ELITE series powered by Multi-IQ — a breakthrough in treasure detection combing cutting-edge technology and affordability. Designed for the savvy hunter in search of a fully waterproof, feature-rich machine with proven Multi-IQ technology, the X-TERRA ELITE stands unbeatable… (c) Minelab.

With these words, Minelab introduces its new metal detector to us. Let’s take a look at the one that “stands unbeatable.”

What’s new

I honestly tried to find something new in this metal detector. And… Everything in this detector (absolutely everything) has already been implemented in other devices. Essentially, the Minelab X-TERRA ELITE is a mix of features and capabilities from other detectors.

The same applies to its appearance. A typical Minelab shaft, control box, and search coil.

Every manufacturer has small stories that had a big impact. Once, Grandpa Garrett decided to move his car into the shade and ran over his metal detector. He simply didn’t notice it against the ground. This incident led to the bright yellow color, which became a signature feature of the Garrett ACE series metal detectors. Later, they came up with the idea that this color represented gold, along with other branding elements.

Someone close to the Nokta manufacturer was hearing-impaired. Especially for them, the manufacturer introduced a vibration feedback function. Today, this is a mandatory feature adopted by other manufacturers as well.

It’s interesting… What story led to the red backlight in Minelab metal detectors?
