In an attempt to make their searchcoil provide stable operation, some treasure hunters use the ear extensions – additional coil ears. Have you seen such a thing? It’s interesting!
The author of this improvement claims phantom signals come from distortion of the coil’s housing at the lower shaft attachment point. If you add a kind of torsion suspension (extend the coil ears) to this attachment point – false responses will be noticeably less.
